The NL12880BC20-07F WXGA, TFT Colour LCD module from NLT is manufactured specifically to be readable in bright or sunlight conditions in industrial settings.

The 1280 x 800 resolution TFT display has a contrast ratio of 800:1 (typical) and an impressive screen luminance of 1,800cd/m², making it truly readable in sunlight.

The robust industrial LCD module offers high contrast and clear images due to the proprietary ColorXcell technology which reproduces colour that is comparable in intensity to the original video source (i.e. without tint or colour variance), yet with minimum increase in power consumption.

The 12.1inch display uses an-Si TFT active matrix drive to display over 16milion colours, with 64 grayscale, at 8bit input, and 262, 144 colours at 6bit input via a single channel LVDS connection.

The wide operating temperature of -20 to +70C combined with the high screen brightness makes this panel ideal for outdoor mobile applications.

The module is compact, measuring only 277.7 x 180.6 x 8.7mm for use in space-restricted industrial environments.

The screen can be viewed from all directions and has an anti-glare surface and consumes just 17W (typical)..

AAEON’s Newest GENE-A55E Subcompact Board

AAEON’s Newest GENE-A55E Subcompact Board: The Link between Past and Future

AAEON’s Newest GENE-A55E Subcompact Board: The Link between Past and Future
(Taipei, Taiwan) October 14, 2014 —AAEON®, a major developer of industrial computing solutions, unites both traditional and state-of-the-art new technology with the release of the GENE-A55E, 3.5” subcompact board.
Specficially designed for users of the previous model of AAEON’s AMD LX800 3.5” subcompact board, this new entry provides almost identical configurations, such as rear I/O arrangements and design, ensuring users of the former board need minimum effort to upgrade their hardware.

One of the legacy technologies being incorporated into the board is the Industrial Standard Architecture (ISA) bus accessible via the PC/104 interface. Although released for more than two decades, the PC/104 interface is still a being widely used in industrial boards for its shock resistant, dust free potential, made possible through its rugged construction. The bus is also preferred by most programmers, as it allows software code to be directly written into or read from the bus without the need for drivers, a necessity in newer systems. Test results have shown that ISA through the PC/104 on this new board is 100% compatible with that of the older boards. Other legacy support includes a power supply of 5V (compared to the present day 12V), the use of a CompactFlash™ card and support for all Windows® Operating Systems since Windows® CE 6.0.
Amidst supporting older technologies, the GENE-A55E also improved upon some of the older features, such as adding more COM ports (2x RS232, 2x RS232/422/485), increasing and supporting more advanced RAM (DDR3L 1066 SODIMM RAM of up to 4GB), implementing better Ethernet hardware for faster connection speeds (10/100/1000Base x2) and incorporating more flexible expansions (MiniCard shared with mSATA).
By adopting a fanless design, the board emits almost no sound and vibration during operation, making it suitable for applications in hospitals. Its high reliability may also extend its use from ordinary medical devices to specialized equipment in operating theaters, where any interruptions may have dire consequences to the patient. Furthermore, with a comprehensive list of onboard features as well as its fanless characteristic, the board can also be used in areas such as IoT as well as in the agriculture industry, where versatility, functionality and ruggedness are much sought after.
“Upgrading is an important concept in any field of computing and AAEON has designed the GENE-A55E to do just that,” said Jones Huang, Product Manager of AAEON’s Embedded Computing Division. “Through offering support for legacy technology in conjunction with present day technology, we look to help our clients gain a competitive edge through combining the existing strength of old, with the added benefits of the new”.

RDS Announces NLT technologies Ltd Industrial Hi-Bright Seven and Eight inch TFT panels

RDS Announces NLT technologies Ltd Industrial Hi-Bright Seven and Eight inch TFT panels

9 October 2014

Designed to provide impressive display performance in high ambient light the NL8048AC21-01F and the NL8048AC19-14F are compact display panels with a diagonal screen size of eight inches and seven inches respectively.
Both these panels feature a high bright LED technology backlight giving the screens a brightness of 1000cd/m² and a half-life of 100,000 hours, making it ideal for programs where a long product is a requirement.
The screens high brightness levels also make these panels ideal for applications which use a touch screen as this will offset some of the reductions introduced by the construction of the touch sensor.
Both panels are suitable for PCAP or resistive touch technology which can be either directly bonded to the panel or optically bonded for increased display performance and strength.
The display viewing angles are 80 degrees all round and the extended temperature range of -30C to +85C makes the panels suitable for outdoor monitoring equipment or mobile applications in extreme environments.
The wide VGA (800x480 pixels) resolution panels are able to display 262,144 colours and have a pixel pitch of 0.21mm

The panels both have a single channel LVDS interface making them compatible with a range of industrial single board computers, or ARM based “system on module” solutions,  also available from Review Display Systems Ltd.
RDS can also design and manufacture a bespoke housing for the display and board assembly ideal if you require a pre-tested display subsystem within your product.
